Valerie Ann (Lewis) McGinnis, 66, of Terra Alta, WV, passed away Thursday October 9, 2025, at WVU Medicine JW Ruby Memorial Hospital with family by her side.
She was born on August 23, 1959, in Oakland, MD, a daughter of the late Gilbert Lewis and Violet (Alexander) Lewis.
Valerie enjoyed sewing, hiking, cooking, and baking, but most importantly she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She gave much of her time back to the community by assisting with food pantries, particularly Feed My Sheep. Valerie never met a stranger and took everyone in as family. She had many adopted family members who she loved as if they were her own.
Valerie is survived by her husband, James McGinnis; sons, Jared McGinnis and wife, Stephanie of Kingwood, Kevin McGinnis of Masontown, and Josh McGinnis of Bruceton Mills; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Shawn Lewis and wife, Brenda of Albright, and Robin "Bub" Lewis of Terra Alta; sister, Angela Deem of Terra Alta, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Valerie is proceeded in death by her brother, Ronald Lewis, and great granddaughter, Kathryn Matheny-Fizer.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV, on Monday October 13, 2025, from 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm time of service with Pastor Denzil Null officiating. To honor her wishes, Valerie will then be cremation. Professional and compassionate cremation services will be conducted by Field Funeral Home.
