Cecilia - A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 21, 2023 at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia for Alice "Yayet" Angelle Degeyter, 97, who passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Brother James Tabor will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Alice was born on March 18, 1926, in Cecilia. Known for her unwavering faith, Alice had a deep love for Jesus that radiated in everything she did. She found solace and inspiration in her religious devotion and was an active member of Lighthouse Church when her health permitted. Her strong belief in the power of prayer guided her through life's challenges and brought comfort to those around her.
Alice was truly a people person. She possessed a remarkable ability to connect with others and had a heart full of generosity and empathy. Her warm smile would light up any room, making everyone feel instantly welcomed and loved. Friends and family cherished her genuine interest in their lives and found solace in her wise counsel.
In her free time, Alice enjoyed various hobbies that enriched her life. Spending time with friends and family was always at the top of her list. Whether it was hosting gatherings or simply enjoying heartfelt conversations, she valued the bonds she shared with loved ones above all else.
Alice also found great joy in reading her Bible. The scriptures provided guidance and nourishment for her soul, enabling her to grow spiritually throughout her life. Her knowledge of the word of God was extensive, and she often shared passages that offered comfort during difficult times.
A talented cook, Alice delighted in preparing delicious meals for those she cared about. Among the dishes she mastered was Couche Couche, a staple of Cajun cuisine. Her culinary creations were not only mouthwatering, but also served as a way to bring people together.
Additionally, Alice savored playing Bingo and Pokeno. These games provided not only entertainment, but also an opportunity to socialize and create lasting memories. Her lively spirit and sense of humor made every game enjoyable for those lucky enough to share the experience with her.
Alice "Yayet" Angelle Degeyter leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness. Her warmhearted nature and unwavering commitment to her beliefs will continue to inspire and touch the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her children, Kirby Degeyter, Wayne Degeyter (Janelle), Byron Degeyter (Jennie) and Pamela Berard (Edwin); 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Rodney Paul Degeyter; parents, Albin and Helen Bethancourt Angelle; daughter-in-law, Shirley Degeyter; two grandchildren, Byron James Degeyter II and Jammie Wayne Degeyter; great-grandson, Devon Leger; brothers, Roger Angelle, Jim Angelle and Jessie Angelle; sisters, Barbara "YoYo" Lasseigne, Paola Bogue, and Aline Hohle; niece, Sabrina "Sebby" Simon; and her nephew, Mark Holie.
Pallbearers will be Kalan Broussard, Orville Degeyter, Alex Degeyter, Lee Degeyter, Dusty Trahan, and Monica Degeyter.
Pellerin Funeral Home, 2238 Bushville Hwy, Cecilia, LA 70512 (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
