Alice "Terri" Dorsey, 70, was born August 12, 1953 in
Newark, Delaware cherished by George and Alice Wilson. She separated this life to be with the Lord Thursday, August 17, 2023 in
Wilmington, De.
Terri, as most people called her, grew up in the community of Newark on New London Road, where now the George Wilson Community center is located, which is named after her father. Terri received her high school education from Newark High where she enjoyed being a flag twirler for the band. After high school, she received an education at the HBCU Lincoln University class of 1975, with a degree in accounting. In addition to her educational experience, Terri graduated from Eastern Theological Seminary a degree in Biblical Studies class of 1995. She spent most of her career at New Castle County Government for 35- years before retirement in the treasury department.
This prayer warrior, was loved and cherished by her family and friends. As a daughter of the first Black councilman in the city of Newark and a contractor. Terri grew up understanding how to lay the foundation to homes and life. As a child, her father built homes (and a church) for Black families to have affordable middle class housing. Even so much that he named a development after her called "Terri Manor" which consist of Wilson Street, Terry Lane and Kennard Drive.
Terri met and married the love of her life John Dorsey June 2, 1984 and enjoyed 39 years of marriage. After trying for years to convince, in November 1992, Terri and John welcomed their baby girl Amanda. Which she would often refer her as the "Miracle" baby. Amanda was the apple of Terri's eye and she spoiled her like no other. The relationship between the two was special. So much a like in many ways where they would bump heads but quickly kiss and make up. Terri enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Special meals like yellow grits, fried fish, salmon cakes for breakfast, White potato pie for Christmas and a smoke turkey. These are just a few things that liked to cook. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she would decorate the house with nutcrackers, lights, flowers, ornaments, Italian cookies and more. She truly enjoyed family time and family gatherings as much as she could. Terri looked forward to Wilson family reunion to connect with her family again.
Terri, as known as the historian and intercessor gave her life back to Christ in the early 80s and served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and Choir. Later, she became an Elder under the leadership of Apostle Robert Revelle Sr. She was an devoted member of Mount Zion Greater Harvest. Where she served as an Elder, intercessor, head of the altar ministry and marriage ministry. Terri enjoyed studying the word of God and filled her days in worship and prayer. She was a book collector and always desired to know more and deeper in the word (she has over 500 books). Anytime you needed to know she would find it for you.
