Alice Jeanne Taylor Haueter, 91, our dear beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully from this life on October 22, 2025. She was born September 16, 1934, in Logan, Utah, to Ira J. Taylor and Alice Winger Taylor.
Alice spent her early years in Preston, Idaho before her family moved to Murray, Utah at age nine. She graduated from Murray High School in 1953. That same year she married Ed Butterfield, and together they were blessed with five children. After their divorce, she later married Frank Engstrum in 1973 and had one daughter with him. In 1987, she married the love of her life, her eternal sweetheart, Denton Haueter. For 31 beautiful years, they were inseparable and were practically never to be found without the other. As the matriarch and patriarch of a large close-knit family, they created countless treasured memories that will live on for generations. They were a steady presence and consistently showed up to games, performances, and dance recitals for their posterity.
Alice worked several years for the Jordan School District, first as a school lunch worker and later as a bus driver for 23 years. She particularly cherished her time driving the children of Jordan Valley School with special needs, whose smiles and spirits touched her heart deeply. She also sold Home Interiors for 30 years.
A devoted lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alice's faith was the foundation of her life. She held many callings including teacher, ward and stake Primary president, and Relief Society president, each a reflection of her deep love for the Savior and her unwavering devotion to His gospel.
Of all her callings, the one she cherished most was that of mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Her family was her heart. She supported and loved each one unconditionally, celebrating every milestone and every moment together. Summers were filled with joyful reunions, birthdays with laughter throughout the years, and holidays, particularly Christmas Eve. These were magical times spent surrounded by those she loved most.
Alice's home was always warm, welcoming, and impeccably cared for--a reflection of her spirit. She found joy in cooking, baking, home decorating, dancing, camping, and four-wheeling with her family and friends. Her zest for life and her nurturing heart made every gathering brighter.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Sagewood at Daybreak and Canyon Home Health and Hospice employees for their loving care and friendships. We also wish to thank her dear family and sweet friends that have been such a blessing to her and her to them. She was truly a friend to all.
She is survived by her six children: Debra (Duff) Greenwell, Steve (Vickie) Butterfield, Lori (Ed) Tuerpe', Julie (Spencer) Sainsbury, Allison (Rob) Gibbons, and Katie (John) Burke. She leaves behind 29 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren who will carry her love forward. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Denton, and her siblings: Wanda, Ira, Katherine, Maxine, and Jackie.
A viewing will be held on November 1, 2025, from 10-11:30am. Funeral services will start at 12:00 noon, at the LDS chapel in Draper, 12353 South 600 East. Buriel will take place at the Taylorsville City Cemetery, 4567 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville.
