Alice (LaMothe) Leger, born in Bristol to Alphonse and Cecile LaMothe on January 31, 1936, died on February 18, 2025.
She was the baby sister to her late brothers Rene (Doris), Maurice (Mary), and Paul (Josephine, Dorina, and Sally) LaMothe and late sister Theresa (Daniel) Boyer; beloved wife to the late Leo C. Leger; aunt, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves her two daughters, Tracey (Richard) Leger-Hornby and Dawn Leger, and she was predeceased by two sons, Lance (Lisa) and Eric Leger, and one son-in-law, Nihat Ozkaya.
A proud graduate of Bristol High School, Alice retired from the Southern New England Telephone Company, took a memorable cross-country camping trip with the Hornby family that included white water rafting (she couldn't swim), horseback riding, and lots of time reading aloud from a guidebook about sites they may or may not be visiting. She quilted until her hands gave out, and then she found a new way to channel her OCD: she enjoyed ten happy years as a full-time and valued volunteer for the Bristol Visiting Nurse Association, working until the day they closed. Alice also spent many hours volunteering at the Bristol Public Library, in addition to being a devoted patron. She was a great "partner in crime," always ready to tackle a project or an adventure (except for Broadway musicals or weird plays about chairs), many of which included attending women's college basketball or Bristol Blues baseball games, watching Bruins or Red Sox games, going to concerts in venues from the Jorgensen Theater to the Federal Hill Green, attending events (including many book signings and readings) and visiting museums in New York, Boston, and New Haven. She heartily supported her favorite grandchildren Brian and Kathleen Hornby in all their endeavors, especially their marriages to Deborah Greig and Winfield Peterson, and the joy of knowing her great grandchildren, Maisie and Quint Peterson and Lea and Asher Hornby. Along with two brothers-in-law, James Leger of Bristol and Robert Leger of Las Vegas, Alice leaves many nieces and nephews and their families, several cousins and their families, and many friends and neighbors. Alice was part of a large and loving family, and she enjoyed a good book, a challenging puzzle (crossword or jigsaw), and a cold beer, especially while wearing a funny hat.
Thanks to everyone at Farmington Station for helping make her last years easier, the folks at Compass Memory Care for watching over her, and the staff who cared for Alice in her final days at Ingraham Manor and Bristol Hospital Hospice Care.
