Alice Luetzel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by K.V. Knopp Funeral Home on Jan. 23, 2026.
Alice E. Luetzel, 98, of Allentown and formerly of Wescosville, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Phoebe Home. She was the wife of the late William G. Luetzel who passed away in 2014.

Born in Schenectady, New York, she was the daughter of the late Nicolas and Vincenza "Jane" (Cerniglia) Alberti of Sicily, Italy. Alice was a musical prodigy, with a beautiful operatic voice & ability to play any instrument; piano was her forte and performed in concerts attended by thousands of people. Her mother and sister, Connie, would sew her beautiful gowns in which to perform.

Alice graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, then received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. After completing her B.A., she attended Columbia University & performed at Rockefeller Center for radio shows. Alice then attended N.Y. State Teachers College & completed her student teaching at East Greenbush Junior High School, N.Y. She accepted a position for Director of Music for the General Electric Chorus, and that's where she met her husband. After marriage, they relocated to Pittsburgh, PA & then Wescosville, PA, welcoming their children to complete their family.

The Luetzel's became dedicated members of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Emmaus, and she accepted the position of church organist and choir director for 35 years. Alice also enjoyed playing piano for VBS at Faith Church, composing music for friends and teaching private piano lessons for over 40 years. She was an active member of the American Guild of Organists for several decades.

Music was her passion, and she played proudly, but also was able to balance being a wife, mother, and provider for her family. She was an amazing cook, successfully mastering Julia Child recipes, but her lasagna was the creme de la creme. She will be sincerely missed but is now conducting the choir of beloved family members who preceded her into the kingdom of heaven.

Survivors: Son, William A. Luetzel of Allentown; Daughter, Susan K. Escobedo and her husband Michael Feigh of Georgia; Grandchildren, Katherine Rose Escobedo-Jany, Kayla Alice Escobedo, Ethan Feigh and Shane Feigh; Great-grandchildren, Isabella, Aiden & Adalyn Jany, and Aurora Escobedo; Sister, Beatrice Hoyt of Schenectady, New York. Alice was also preceded in death by a brother Salvatore Alberti and sisters Adele Falvo, Josephine Howenstein and Concetta "Connie" Pisano.

Services: A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 30, 2026, in the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, 46 E. Susquehanna Street, Allentown. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Allentown.

I remember many singing rehearsals with Alice. Her gentle coaching to hit those notes!
Even though your song has ended, May you be creating a joyful noise of eternal music in heaven.

Alice was the organist at St.Margaret's for many years. I enjoyed singing with her and also discussing our families who were neighbors in upstate NY.
