Alice Minrose Myers Matthews gained her angel wings on August 3, 2025, just two days after celebrating her 88th birthday. She was born on August 1, 1937, in West Point, Mississippi, to the late Joe and Rosa Grissom Myers. From the beginning, Alice lived a life filled with compassion, strength, and unwavering love for her family. She graduated from West Point High School in 1955 and later that same year, on December 10, she married her soulmate, Dale J. Matthews. Their love story spanned nearly seven decades, a beautiful example of lifelong devotion and partnership. Together they raised a family built on faith, kindness, and laughter. Alice was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy. She had a natural gift for making others feel cared for and at home, whether through her warm smile, comforting words, or her talent as a beautician, a craft she lovingly practiced for most of her life after attending cosmetology school. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters, four brothers, and her beloved son, Michael Oren Matthews. Though their absence was felt deeply, her faith and the love of her family carried her through.
Alice leaves behind a legacy of love and grace. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dale, who remained by her side through every season of life. Her sister, Norma Clardy of West Point, MS. Her children, Ronald Lee Matthews of Bessemer, Alabama, Tamara Rose Matthews Clark (Edwin) of West Point, MS, and Kenneth Dale Matthews (Betsy) of Brandon, MS, who will forever carry her love in their hearts. She also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom was touched by her warmth and kindness.
Visitation will be held at Faith Baptist Church from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday August 6, 2025, with a service to celebrate Alice’s life immediately following. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Those honored to carry Alice to her final resting place include Rick Stafford (nephew), Christian Wilson (great-grandson), Edward Wilson Jr. (grandson), Robert Fair (spouse of great-granddaughter Angel Wilson), John Clardy (nephew), Eddie Clardy (nephew), and Dave Burleson, a treasured family friend. Honorary pallbearers include Dan Cash (nephew), Bill Ladd (nephew), and the devoted staff of Legacy Hospice, whose compassionate care brought peace and comfort in her final days. The family kindly asks that donations be made in her memory to Faith Baptist Church 3695 East Church Hill Rd West Point, MS 39773, a place that brought her joy and spiritual comfort throughout her life.
