Alice Moustakas

Alice Moustakas, aged 76, went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2025, at home in East Rutherford, NJ after an 11 year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on April 14, 1948. She grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey and was a devoted Christian and lived her life close to the Lord in everything she did. She was a loving wife, a caring mom, grandmother, sister and a loyal friend to many.
Alice received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1970 and was a teacher for 30 years in East Rutherford. While working full time and raising a family, she also received her Master's degree in education from Jersey City University. She wrote her Master's thesis on positive discipline in the classroom, reflecting her dedication to nurturing young minds by instilling in all her students that they can succeed. She retired from teaching in 2003.
Alice was a woman of prayer, entrusting Jesus and His plan for her life and the lives of those around her. Her witness for Jesus was evident by the way she lived and smiled through all circumstances expressing that the joy of the Lord is her strength. A longstanding and active member of the Rutherford Bible Chapel, Alice was known for her vibrant participation in church activities, including teaching Vacation Bible School for many years. Her home was always open, welcoming family, friends, and church members, and she was renowned for her exceptional Middle Eastern cooking, especially her grape leaves. Alice is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Stavros, her daughter Elaine Trampler and son-in-law Matthew, grandchildren George and Nicholas, and siblings Grace Lama and Dr. David Sahar, MD. She was preceded in death by siblings Leila Hishmeh, Antoinette Sahhar, Dr. Anthony Sahar, MD and George Sahar. Special thanks to all the dedicated caregivers and healthcare workers who helped care for her throughout her illness.
Funeral Service Friday 10:00am at the Rutherford Bible Chapel 161 W. Passaic Avenue Rutherford. Family and friends planning to attend Services are asked to assemble directly at the church at 9:45am.
The family will receive friends Thursday 1:00pm to 5:00pm, with a short Prayer Service at 4:00 at the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home 19 Lincoln Ave. Rutherford.
