Alice Jeanette Mitchell Raines

Alice Jeanette Mitchell Raines, age 80, of Senath, Missouri, passed away on August 29, 2025. She was born on May 21, 1945, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to Otis and Eloise Mitchell.
Alice graduated from Kennett High School in 1963 and attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where she was a proud member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was also a Rebelette, serving as a feature twirler and head majorette of the famed Ole Miss Rebel Band. During her time at Ole Miss, she had the honor of twirling at the Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Liberty Bowl, and Bluebonnet Bowl-memories she cherished throughout her life.
On December 31, 1965, Alice married the love of her life, John David Raines, in Florence, Alabama. Together, they shared nearly 60 years of love and devotion.
Alice began her teaching career in the Senath-Hornersville School District, where she held various roles and touched the lives of many students. Beyond the classroom, she shared her talent and passion for baton by teaching lessons to countless students throughout Dunklin County. After retiring from teaching, Alice worked alongside her husband in their family fuel business, where she continued to serve the community with dedication and care.
She was also an active member of the Senath Church of Christ, a devoted member of P.E.O. in Kennett, Missouri, and a proud participant in the Missouri Cotton Ladies, where she built many lasting friendships and connections.
Alice's greatest joy in life was her family. She was deeply proud of her grandchildren, Rachel and Austin, and she continued that same passion for her great-grandsons, Hank and Duke. She was often found talking about them and sharing her love for them with anyone who would listen.
Alice lit up every room she entered with her vibrant spirit and kind heart. She was also known for always being well dressed and put together, carrying herself with grace, charm, and elegance.
She is survived by her husband, John David Raines; her son, John Mitchell Raines (Buffy); her grandchildren, Rachel Heiman (Casey) and Austin Raines (Ciera); and her great-grandsons, Hank and Duke Heiman. She is also survived by her siblings, Roberta Mitchell Michelson (Jim) of Lewes, Delaware, and Otis Mitchell (Karen) of Bozeman, Montana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Eloise Mitchell.
Alice will be remembered for her love of family, her devotion to faith and community, her dedication to her students, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 02, 12:00 noon at the Senath Church of Christ in Senath, Missouri with Mr. Jim Mauldin and Doug Clinton officiating. The visitation will begin at 10:30 and continue until service time at 12:00. Donations in her honor may be made to the Senath-Hornersville School District or the Senath Church of Christ.

Honored to serve as pallbearers: Byron Small, Scottie Jackson, Don Wallace, Casey Heiman, Austin Raines,
