Alice Marie Rass of Mosinee, Wisconsin, died March 28, 2024, with her family at her side.
Alice was born July 17, 1936, to the late Fabian and Mary Kollross in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She graduated from Luxemburg High School. She married James Rass on September 11, 1957, at Holy Martyrs of Gorcum Catholic Church in Green Bay.
Alice worked at the office of H.C. Prange Company before she and Jim moved to Mosinee in 1960. Alice was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mosinee. Her faith in Jesus Christ inspired her in service to others throughout her life. Over the years, she served as president of St. Monica’s Council and Catholic Women Club, and served on St. Paul’s Parish Council and the Diocesan Family Life Commission. Alice and Jim were active in the St. Anthony Spirituality Center for many years as volunteer retreat leader staff. They also worked on the National Marriage Encounter program and retreats.
Alice loved her children and grandchildren, and treasured time spent with each of them. After raising her four children, she worked as a dental assistant and in childcare. Her hobbies included sewing, biking, reading, visiting friends, visiting homebound in assisted living facilities, and distributing communion to those who could not attend mass.
After Jim retired, Alice and Jim traveled to many National Parks and cities of interest throughout the United States and Europe. For several years they spent their winters in Gulf Shores, AL.
Alice is survived by her husband James; daughter Mary (Kurt) Todas of Portage MI; daughter Jeanne’ (Stuart) Portoghese of St. Paul, MN; son Jeff (Kathleen) Rass of Wausau, WI; brother Cliff (Bonnie) Kollross, Milwaukee; sister in law Laverne (Emory) Happel of Milwaukee; Grandchildren Dylan Portoghese; Isaac (Isaac Johnson) Portoghese; Alaina Portoghese; Max Todas; Alivia Rass; Adam Todas; Nicholas Rass; and dozens of nieces and nephews. Alice is preceded in death by her parents and her son Paul.
A Mass of Christian Burial take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Aaron Becker will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until the time of service, all at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be directed to the family at www.bestefh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Community Center of Hope in Mosinee; Wausau Salvation Army; Habitat for Humanity of Wausau; Bread for the World.
