Alice Merriman Salcito ObituaryAlice Merriman Salcito, 107 years old, born 4 August 1917 went to be with the angels on 2 May 2025. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home, after a long, memorable, loving life.
Alice was a loving wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. The many things Alice has witnessed in her 107 years is amazing; the stock market crash, watching her husband Anthony go fight in World War 2 for a few years and surprise her by his homecoming of walking up the steps to their house and knocking on the front door. All the rationing of basic products at that time that all of us take for granted, she made do with very little during those times and changed and repaired her front tire on her 1929 model A Roadster 15 times during the war.
She grew a garden, watched neighborhood children, sewed many new and old clothes and cooked and made the best meals ever with what she had available. Over the years after that Alice was an awesome seamstress, baker, cook and homemaker.
She raised 5 children, and was the most loving and caring grandmother to her grandchildren. Family gatherings around the holidays where always filled with love, great memories and the best cooking anyone has ever tasted. It's amazing the things that Alice has seen and done in her long adventurous life.
Alice will be missed by everyone who knows her and she definitely has impacted many lives during her time on earth. She is preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn Mossiman; her loving husband of 72 years and 9 months, Anthony J. Salcito; her daughter, Bonney Murphy; son-in- law, Raymond Murphy; son, Karl Salcito; and grandson, David J. Salcito. She is survived by her loving sons, Joseph Salcito, Craig Salcito (Grace Verdi-Salcito) and Anthony Salcito.
A celebration of Alice's long, colorful life and graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on 25 June 2025 at West Cemetery, Whites Wood Road, in her hometown of Litchfield, Conn.
