Alice M. Scafidi, beloved matriarch and lifelong resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on December 10, 1932, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Alice embodied warmth, kindness, and an enduring spirit that touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.
Alice was a devoted family member, leaving behind four cherished children: Steve Scafidi and his wife Kathy, Stephanie Howard and her husband Ronald, Rhonda Lockley and her husband Greg, and Shirley Morgan and her husband Kevin. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren, Ryan Carter, Melissa Shockley, Payton Lockley, Alex Scafidi, Matthew Scafidi, Annie Scafidi, and Garrett Morgan, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Gavin Carter, Zachary Shockley, Ryleigh Carter, and Emily Shockley. Alice was also a proud great-great-grandparent to Asher Carter. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph J. Scafidi, who passed away in April of 2016.
Alice was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church, showcasing her enduring faith and commitment to her community. She found joy in life's simple pleasures: cheering for her beloved LSU Tigers, supporting the New Orleans Saints, enjoying the Game Show Network, tending to her yard, and feeding the birds from the comfort of her porch.
Her unwavering spirit and dedication to her family were evident in everything she did. Alice's presence will be profoundly missed, but her love and memories will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church located at 366 Cowan Rd, Gulfport, MS, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Following the Mass, a graveside service will take place at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
