Alice I. Wiese, age 92, of Pocahontas, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at her daughter's home in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Alice Irene Shaffer was born April 21, 1930, in Fonda, Iowa to John "Jack" Shaffer and Martha "Esther" McDermott. Alice graduated from Sacred Heart School in Pocahontas in 1949. Alice married the love of her life, William Wiese, in November of 1954. Many moves and adventures ensued, eventually landing them back in Pocahontas. In 1976, Bill and Alice took over the family business as owners of Wiese Flowers and Gifts from Bill's mother, where they worked side-by-side for many years. Alice loved to laugh, dance, enjoy a great martini, and a cold beer after a Hawkeye win. After Bill passed in 2002, she became an avid reader and enjoyed embroidery. Family was very important to Alice, and she showed it with her love of baking and cooking.
Alice is survived by three children, Jackie (Viken) Kondakji of Morganville, NJ, James Wiese of Boone, and Julie Wiese (Steve Brown) of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Allison (Nick) Cooper, David Helmers, Miles Wiese, Shelby Wiese, Mia (Drew) Clubb, Marshall Wiese, Nicholas Kondakji, and Kristina Kondakji; great-grandchildren, Cainan, Teagan, Emersyn and Jagger Cooper, Lennie, Liv and Levi Helmers, and Marley Clubb. Alice is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Bill; her parents; brother, James and wife Rosemary; brother, Donald and wife Goldie; sister, JoAnn Joachims and husband Glen; sister, Mary Hillsten and husband Donald. She was the last of her generation.
We will miss her smile, wit and humor.
