From 1968 - 1972, they lived in Pocahontas where Swan was stationed at the Pocahontas Army Reserve Center. They returned and settled in Pocahontas in 1976. Friede worked several jobs over the years including the Pocahontas Care Center, Browns Grocery Store, Ben Franklin and Shimon Drug Store, retiring in 1989. Swan passed away in 2007 and Friede continued to make her home in Pocahontas.

Friede was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and the Catholic Ladies Society. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She was a big Elvis fan and also enjoyed being outside doing yard work and cleaning.
