Alice “Dayle” McCamman Wilging went home to be with the Lord on March 29th, 2025, at the age of 99. She spent her last days at her home in Baton Rouge surrounded by her loving family.
Dayle was born October 1, 1925, in Mt. Gilead, Ohio. She left her parent’s home after high school and worked on the assembly line at Westinghouse where she met her future husband, Merle. Dayle and Merle married on October 8, 1944, and raised their family in Mansfield, OH. Dayle and Merle moved to Baton Rouge, LA in 1976, where she continued to lovingly support her husband and children. Dayle was a faithful member of Jefferson Baptist Church. She is preceded in her journey into heaven by her loving husband, Merle Philip Wilging; her beloved parents, Charles and Lydia McCamman, of Mt. Gilead, OH; her brother, Donald; and her sisters, Delta, Betty, and Sylva. Surviving is her sister, Phyllis of West Palm Beach, FL.
Dayle is survived by her three daughters, Tecca Wilging Auxt and husband Erik of Baton Rouge, Patricia Wilging Buckalew and husband Jim of Reno, NV, Susan Wilging Hayes and husband Arnett of Baton Rouge, and son Mark Philip Wilging and wife Karen of Punta Gorda, FL.
Nana, as she was lovingly called is affectionately remembered by her grandchildren: Sherrod and Kari Auxt, Erin and JR Crain, Flynn and Britny Auxt, Philip and Irene Buckalew, Meryl and Erik Burke, Sasha and Rufus Boyd, Tori and Reynolds LeBlanc, Haley and Michael Ferreira, Amanda and Chris Preston, and Grant and Bethany Wilging.
Nana was adored by her 22 great-grandchildren: Jordan and Taylor, Lexi and Trey, Peyton and Sydney, Camryn, Erikson, Myles, Griffin, Palmer, A.J., Alex, Catherine, McCamman, Houston, Crews, Hayes, Brooks, Ellie, Kallie, Selah, Ariellah, Arabellah and Claire. Nana was also blessed with 5 great-great-grandchildren: Andrew, Kaia, Emmy Lu, Edie Mae and Ransom.
Dayle exemplified the Proverbs 31 mother: A Proverbs 31 mother is a godly woman who teaches and lives by wisdom. She is a wife of noble character who fulfills her responsibilities with love and diligence. She is praised by her husband and children for her virtues and deeds. She is an example of the personified wisdom that Proverbs urges us to pursue and listen to.
Dayle was not only a loving mother to her own children, but she was a surrogate mom to many others including nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Dayle with her “little man”, Merle, had desires for their family that were based in scripture.
III John 1:4 - I have no greater joy in life than that my children walk in the truth. James 1:22 – Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only. I John 4:7 – Beloved, let us love one another for love is of God. I John 4:11 – If God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. Proverbs 3:3-7 - Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them about your neck; write them upon the tablet of your heart; so shall you find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.
