Alida Dohn Obituary

Alida Barbara "Bunny" Dohn

June 3, 1942 - December 28, 2025

State College, Pennsylvania - Alida Barbara "Bunny" Dohn passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, at the age of 83. She died in her home in State College, PA, surrounded by her family. Born on June 3, 1942, in Schenectady, NY, Bunny was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend who touched the lives of many.

Bunny is survived by her husband of 61 years, George D. Dohn; her daughters, Alida "Heather" Dohn Ross (John) and Heide Santiago (Craig); and her grandchildren, Griffin and Grizz Ross. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Collins (Christopher), and her beloved former exchange student, Cedric Falyse, who remained a dear part of her life. Bunny was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Alanson Burt and Alida Gartner Burt.

A proud graduate of Syracuse University, Bunny earned a degree in early elementary education and dedicated her career to teaching, later serving as a specialized dyslexia reading specialist. She began her teaching career as a newlywed before joining George at his station in Germany, where they started their family. After returning from Germany, she focused on raising her two daughters, settling in Park Ridge, NJ, where they lived for 33 years. During this time, she was an active member of Pascack Bible Church and returned to her passion for teaching once her children had finished high school.

Following retirement, Bunny and George moved to State College, PA, to be closer to their grandchildren. She delighted in using her professional skills to tutor them and became an active member of Calvary Church.

Bunny and George and their family spent 52 years sailing on Lake Champlain. She spent the summers with the girls on Golden Girl II creating an idyllic childhood for them and creating a community of lifelong friends. Together, they traveled the world, including enjoying sailing adventures in the Caribbean, Greece, and New Zealand.

As we mourn the loss of Alida Barbara "Bunny" Dohn, we also celebrate her extraordinary life. Her presence was a gift, and though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
