Alissa Hopkins-Pearson Obituary
Our beloved Alissa Hopkins – Pearson was born on January 3, 1959, to the union of Mary Doris and Dewhitt Hopkins in Chicago, Illinois. Alissa was lovingly called Ducky or Duck by her family and close friends.
Alissa attended Chicago Public Schools and developed many lifelong friends in the South Chicago community. Alissa was a caring and giving woman who decided her life's work would be in healthcare. She went on to obtain her degree in nursing and cared for patients and family alike over the years.
Ducky loved writing and reading. She was a poet, and wonderful writer. Alissa had a great impact on her family. A loving heart, a guiding word, a stoic personality, does not begin to describe how phenomenal she was. A secret was kept if you told it to her, correction was given if you needed it, a hug and beautiful smile always greeted you when you saw her.
Alissa met and married Duane Pearson, Sr., December 13th, 1985. To this union they raised 11 children. Relocating her family from Chicago to Cassopolis, Michigan, Alissa remained devoted to her husband, raising her children and grandchildren. In fact, the move for her lead to other family members relocating to the area and thriving as she knew they could. Always encouraging, Alissa saw to it that her family received love, and had access to resources and education.
Alissa truly enjoyed spending time with her family. She relished the idea of being pampered by her children any chance she could. She was known to say, "I'm just spoiled" and it was usually followed by the loving gloat "ain't mama worth it?" with a smile on her face. "Yes mama, it was worth it – to see your beautiful smile, it was all worth it.
Alissa was preceded in death by her loving husband Duane "Man" Pearson, Sr.; her son Duane Jr. "Junebug"; her mother Mary Doris Parker; fathers Dewhitt Hopkins and Romeo Parker; brother Roy Wells, Sr.; sister Romesa Hopkins; and brother-in-law Tony Garner.
Alissa's love and affection will live on through her children Deidra (Emmanuel), Christopher, Rachel "Rae-Rae", Cassandra "Sandy", Constance "Connie", Andrew, Tracy, Victoria "Viki", Justin and Joseph; grand-children Ahmad III "Tre", Aliyah, Elijah, Emmanuel, Akeira, Christilin, Ashai, Ania, Andres "Dre", Amiyah "Mia", Gerald III "Trace" and Aiyahna; great-grandchildren Maleena, Maliah and Demarcus; her siblings, Gwendolyn "Carol", Gregory (Joyce), Leon (Charlotte), Sheila, and Camille "Bill"; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family.
The family will receive friends from 2 pm-4 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka with a funeral service to begin at 4 pm.
