John Robert Burgess, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, left this world on September 18, 2025, while in the comfort of his home in Vandalia, Michigan. He was born on May 25, 1949, in Mishawaka, Indiana, which began a life that would be full of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
After graduating from Penn High School in 1967 and gaining certifications in tool and die, John entered the workforce with a zest for craftsmanship. His over five-decade-long career in plastic injection molding culminated in the co-ownership of Plastic Solutions, Inc., alongside Bob Tennyson and the late Fred Fuller. John's dedication to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family.
John was the beloved husband of Susan (Webb) Burgess, whom he married on August 25, 1978, in their shared hometown of Mishawaka. The love and laughter they shared for nearly half a century became the foundation for their beautiful family. His legacy is carried on through his children - Roxanna (Steve) Browning, Gina Fleming, Jacquie Harris, Russ (Susan) Burgess, Roy (Melissa) McGee, Shane (Missy) Burgess, and the late Jeanelle Burgess. John was the proud patriarch of 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, who will miss his unforgettable laugh and larger-than-life presence. He is also survived by siblings Norma Sue White and Jerry Burgess
John was preceded in death by his daughter Jeanelle, granddaughter Alexandria McGee, father Joe Burgess, mother Frances (Hartman) Burgess, brothers Denny Burgess, Larry Burgess, and Roy Cripe, Sister in law Lou Burgess, and brother in law Bill White; John's life was a testament to resilience and love undiminished by loss.
Those who knew John will fondly remember his standout personality traits. Whether it was igniting sparkle in the eyes of his grandkids who he loved spending time with, or sharing stories around a campfire, he radiated warmth and happiness. An integral part of his routine included visits to Mr. G's in Osceola, where he was a well-known and loved regular, always greeting friends and newcomers with his unforgettable laugh. Travels to Mexico were a highlight for John spending quality time with his wife, as were the cherished moments spent with family.
Yet, nothing quite compared to his annual fishing trip to Buchanan Resort at Kentucky Lake on the Tennessee River. Here, John relished in the serenity of nature, the thrill of the catch, and the companionship of his loved ones. Those fishing trips, coupled with his enthusiastic storytelling, will be treasured memories for all who were lucky enough to be a part of them.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Service will immediately follow starting at 1 p.m. all being held at Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN 46545.
