Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home - Louisville on Jul. 6, 2025.
Alix Nicole Clinkingbeard came from England, a land of theatrical and literary giants.
She was born on June 17, 1986 in King's Lynn, Norfolk where she lived until moving to Plymouth, Devon as a young child. She attended Hyde Park Elementary and it was here that she first developed a love for literature and language that became central to her intellectual being.
She and her family moved to
Louisville, Kentucky where she attended Bloom Elementary, Highland Middle and DuPont Manual High Schools. She was an active participant - working on the year book, back stage in theater club and enjoying the close camaraderie of choir.
Years-long participation in a small but close knit Girl Scout Troop led to her first great solo travel adventure – a train trip to the Grand Canyon. Years of HYR Soccer and Softball did not lead to athletic prowess but added team work and outdoor fun to her personal vocabulary.
She and her friends loved to hang out on Bardstown Road, in Tyler Park and at the Waterfront. She attended the inaugural Forecastle Festival and enthusiastically embraced the local Punk music scene.
Upon graduation from Manual High School Alix moved to Indianapolis where she attended Butler University. She enrolled in Communication and Media Studies, attained an English Degree and a Masters Degree in Library Sciences.
Alix spent several years working in the Education Department of the Indianapolis Zoo before landing her dream job as a Children's Librarian at the Southport Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
She loved to travel - from Alaskan and Caribbean cruises, to trips back to England and Scotland with friends or family, to a dream trip to Japan with her bestie – she was always ready to pack a bag, grab her camera and hit the road.
She fell in love with and purchased her own home in Bohemian Irvington. She was widely read and collected fine books. She fought for inclusivity and tolerance. She thought Halloween should be celebrated year-round. She protested the Gulf War. She attended conferences and collected My Little Pony's. She loved to cook and eat exotic food. She drank craft beer and cider. She embraced the super-hero Zatanna as a role model. She went to Comic Con. She supported Planned Parenthood and women's health initiatives. She rescued and fostered and adopted stray cats. She was a kind and generous neighbor. She was the Fun Auntie. She raised chickens in her back yard. She embraced all things Disney and the uplifting sounds of K-Pop made up her personal play list.
She loved her family. She loved her friends. She loved her pets. She loved her life.
Alix was just hitting her stride when she was felled by F+++ing Cancer.
She is survived by her Great Grandmother Ruth Clark; her parents Jill and Brion Clinkingbeard; sister-in-law, Julie; and nephew, Magnus Clinkingbeard; and Aunts and Uncles and Cousins in the US and UK. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents Lily & Len Jarman, Jim and Kay Clinkingbeard, Grandfather Charles Clark, Uncle Keith Jarman, and beloved brother Iain Clinkingbeard.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 13th from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
In lieu of flowers, Alix has asked that a memorial tree be planted in Cherokee Park alongside her brother's tree, with donations in her name to Olmstead Parks Conservancy. To embrace her Indy roots, donations can be made in her name to the Friends of Indy Animals.
