Allan L Nuhlicek passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024 at age 87.
Husband of Ana Maria. Father of Leslie Meganck, Heidi Blatnik (Todd) and Shelbie Nuhlicek (John Quirie), step father to Byron Monzon Paz (Angela Monzon). Grandfather to Michael, Shannon, Mollie, Todd Jr., Justin, Nicholas, Franka, Mascha, Stella, Lia, Tessa, Logan and Donovan. Great Grandfather to Skyy, Asiana, Carter, Cameryn, Amaya, Maisy, and Braeden. Brother of Diane Martin (Donald) and Linda Yetter (Allen). Also leaving behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, previous students and professional colleagues.
Most people will remember Allan for his love of telling stories about his life. Although Allan was the main character in his stories, he was always quick to point out who else was in them and how they helped him along the way. Stories that included, but were not limited to, his childhood shenanigans in Marshfield, WI that he loved and revered. He likened his childhood in Marshfield to the movie The Christmas Story, with the sights and sounds of that movie ringing true to his childhood. Whether he was hanging out with his friends, playing sports with his friends in the neighborhood or in high school or trying to impress the girls, Allan had stories! Allan declared that his high school graduation came too early and spoiled his fun. Yet that didn't prevent him from getting into more mischief as he moved on in his life.
Whether it was in college or the Army, Allan knew what fun looked like and he had the stories to tell about it. There were so many stories, about growing up in Marshfield, joining the Army, going to college and then there were those experiences on his beloved Turtle Flambeau flowage. His wish to catch fish became legendary knowing that the fish would usually prevail and Allan would have to go for a Friday fish fry at a restaurant instead. Allan loved eating sweets most likely because his mother Marcille always had fresh baked goods waiting for him in the kitchen when he got home from playing all day. Allan especially liked a fresh doughnut or ice cream. Many times he would make sure he had both when he went up north to his cabin which was his passion and legacy. Life on the Turtle Flambeau, which he had been going to since the age of 5, was always magical to him. There was never a bad day on the flowage, even when it was raining. These experiences helped shape him and his daughters to who they are today.
Allan served proudly for two plus years in the United States Army. He was quick to tell one of his many Army stories which for him, provided many valuable life experiences. During his deployment to Germany he met his future wife, a beautiful German Girl, Karin Hulke. They were fortunate to have three amazing daughters Leslie, Heidi and Shelbie.
Allan was thankful to his parents Arthur and Marcille Nuhlicek for allowing for his many educational opportunities which led him to receive his Doctorate of Education from Marquette University. Through his career, Allan was a teacher and assistant principal in Wausau, WI, Assistant Superintendent for MPS, an award-winning principal for Manitoba Elementary in Milwaukee, WI and consultant for Bruce Guadalupe Community School in Milwaukee, WI. He has met and made so many wonderful friends through all of these roles. His life would not have been the same without the students, parents, and peers he has met along the way.
The demand of the doctoral thesis led to a divorce, but then he was able to find love with Dale Rassman. They enjoyed playing tennis, traveling and going to Allan's beloved cabin. This was eventually not meant to be. After their divorce, Allan fell under the charm of Ana Marie Paz who he met and worked with at Bruce Guadalupe Community School. They were married in 2002. Allan enjoyed the music and activities of Ana's family.
Allan had some very dear close friends that he enjoyed having lunch with, playing cards, golfing and/or playing tennis. If Allan had a social engagement you knew it was going to last several hours as he enjoyed pontificating with his friends.
Allan was an avid Badger, Packer and Brewers Fan. Allan enjoyed going to Brewers games with Byron (Ana's son) or listening to Bob Uecker on game day. Oddly enough Allan was not a Marquette fan, which is a story for another day.

I only have fond memories of my cousin Allan. Summer vacations spent with my parents at the big cabin on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage are some of my best childhood memories. Aunt Molly and Uncle Art, Allan's parents, were the kindest people in the world. I learned how to fish and play cards, and I was terrible at both but Allan always had a smile and a kind word...for everyone.
