Allen Ewald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 23, 2012.
Allen Ewald, age 79, passed away peacefully June 23, 2012, surrounded by his beloved family. Allen was born November 9, 1932, the son of the late Walter and Iva Ewald of Unionville. He was a lifelong Tuscola County resident. Allen was united in marriage with the former Blythe Humphrey on April 11, 1953. They celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary in April of 2012. Allen retired from GM/Saginaw Division after thirty-two years as a journeyman tinsmith. He was also a full time farmer. Allen served his country proudly as a member of the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Fairgrove VFW Post #7486 and believed strongly in supporting the American veterans. Allen enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, long drives along the beautiful Great Lakes, polka music, and time spent with his family and a host of friends. Allen is survived by his wife, Blythe of Fairgrove; two daughters, Sue (Darrell) Popp of Caro and Brenda Ryan of Akron; two sons, John (Leigh Ann) Ewald of Fairgrove and Brian (Alli) Ewald of Sun Lakes, Arizona; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. In keeping with Allen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Daniel L. Gonder officiating. Military honors will be afforded by Fairgrove VFW Post #7486 and the U.S. Navy. Final resting place will be the Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. It would have made Allen proud if donations be made in his name to Fairgrove VFW Post #7486 at 4734 Dutcher Road, Fairgrove, MI 48733 or the USS Edson – Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum, 3727 Wilder Road, Suite B, Bay City, MI 48706. The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro. Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
