Allen Freestone Obituary

Allen Lee Freestone, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his North Salt Lake home on Saturday September 13, 2025. Allen had a heart as big as all outdoors.

Having undergone his first of many heart surgeries at the young age of 32, his big-hearted nature was a stark contrast to his physical heart, and he ultimately passed away due to end stage heart failure with his loving wife by his side holding his hand. Although he may not have always said the words “I love you” to his loved ones, he always found a way to demonstrate how much he loved his family and friends through his actions.

Allen was born on July 3, 1952 to Leland and Evelyn Freestone. Known as a fun and protective brother, he genuinely loved all of his siblings, and they loved him.He also loved his wife and children. He was a single father to 3 boys, Damion, Allen, and Max, for nearly 20 years before marrying the love of his life, Joanne Brown, on September 5, 1996. Having previously raised 3 rambunctious sons, he was thrown for a loop when he gained 2 spirited daughters, Rachel and Jennifer. How his heart survived raising all 5 of them, we’ll never know.

Allen was a hard working individual. He started out as a cement worker and then a mechanic before becoming a plumber. He owned his own plumbing company and was a well known and respected contractor in the community. He was a living legacy and example of love, devotion, and integrity. He made it a point to share these qualities unceasingly with his wife, children, grandchild, friends, and all those he associated with.Allen loved classic cars (especially his Ford Fairlane) and Western movies (anything with John Wayne or Johnny Crawford). He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and four wheeling. He especially loved to golf and once won a trophy from the Lakeside Golf Course Men’s Association.

He also loved to travel. Through the years, Allen and Joanne traveled to Canada,Alaska, the Mediterranean, and all over Europe. Closer to home, he enjoyed traveling with all of his children and grandchildren to Yosemite, as well as going on camping trips with his family and friends.

Allen loved his grandkids. He loved to tease them and joke around with them. And he always showed up for them! He was there for football games, baseball games, wrestling matches, gymnastics matches, dance recitals, karate competitions, violin concerts, plays, graduations, birthday parties, baby blessings, baptisms, mission farewells and homecomings, and weddings. If it was important to them, it was important to him. He loved watching them become who they are, and was always one of their biggest fans.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Harold Freestone and Evelyn Thomas Freestone; siblings, Terry Timothy, Charlene Timothy Woodhead, and Pamela Freestone Willden; and brother in law, Shirl Petersen. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Brown Freestone; siblings, Art (Mary) Timothy, JoAnn Petersen, George (Amy)Freestone; sons, Damion (Hideko), Allen (Larissa), Max (Melinda); daughters, Rachel(Collin) Peterson, and Jennifer Argyle; he is also survived by 13 amazing grandchildren, with one great granddaughter on the way.
