Allen S. "Duke" LeVick, 83, a life-long Little Falls resident, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023 at Little Falls Hospital.
Allen was born on Aug. 13, 1940 in Little Falls, son of the late Steve and Helen (Rice) LeVick and attended Little Falls schools. He enlisted with the US Navy where he served as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic. On September 10, 1966, Allen was united in marriage with Cherilyn Carrig in Little Falls at St. Mary's Church. Allen spent much of his life as an Ironworker, until his retirement.
“Duke” as he was known as to many, was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life. Whether at the sandbar, at Eighth Lake in the spring, summer camping at Piseco Lake or hunting at the Salisbury camp in the fall, Duke's adventures were epic, and he loved to tell stories of all his many victories and few defeats. He was a NASCAR fan who could be found on many a Sunday in front of the television, cheering on the drivers, as long as they were driving a Chevy. He attended many live events, including races in Dover, Daytona and Watkins Glen.
Of all the roles that Duke played, none was more important to him than that of Grandpa. Taking the kids on a fishing trip, out to lunch, to Sylvan Beach or the summer trips to Knoebel’s Amusement Park, he prioritized spending time and making sure all the grandchildren were well taken care of and having fun.
Allen was preceded in death by his daughter, Cara A. LeVick this past year, by his parents and by his brother, James LeVick. He is survived by his wife, Cherilyn at home; his son, Michael A. LeVick and wife Melissa of Cortland, his daughter Amy M. Locke and husband William of Holland Patent and he was the cherished grandpa to Kenna, Sawyer, Kaleigh, Autumn, Liam and Ben.
At the request of Duke, the family will gather privately to say goodbye at the Little Falls owned Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131. There are no public services. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown and the staff of Little Falls Hospital for the compassionate care offered. Kindly consider honoring Duke's memory with a donation to the American Kidney Fund by going to secure.kidneyfund.org.
