Allen "Oley" Scott McCoy, 91, of Gassaway, ended his journey in this life on Friday, July 25, 2025, passing peacefully at his home.

He was born on September 4, 1933, in Duck (Clay County) to the late Ernest Ovid McCoy and Hazel Fern Fulks McCoy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda "Faye" Friend McCoy and his sister, Juanita McCoy James.

Left to cherish a life lived to the fullest are his step daughter, Brenda Simmons; step grandson, Bubby Asbury; sisters, Peggy A. McCoy Hill of Florida, Sandra "Kay" Greenlief-Browning (Everett) of Duck; brother, Larry McCoy (Sally) of Florida; brother-in-law, Denver "Dink" Johnson of Gassaway; many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; a reward of a long life, well lived.

Oley enjoyed life and had an upbeat, fun-loving personality. He grew up in the Duck "Snake Creek" area of Clay County. After he graduated from Gassaway High School he served in the Air Force for four years as a Staff Sergeant and Load Master. Oley set off to Ohio to work for several years for an automobile company. Going back to his roots in WV he came home and worked different jobs until ending his working days at Braxton Motor in Sutton, WV. He was a lifelong member of the Sutton Moose Lodge, serving in various offices in the organization. He and his wife, Faye, also ran and operated the Elk Lunch in Gassaway for many years. Oley spent his last years enjoying his days at the Braxton County Senior Citizens Center, exercising, having lunch and spending time visiting with friends. He also enjoyed delivering groceries to shut-ins who needed help in their homes.
