Allen Braulio Velasquez 72, passed away on March 15, 2025, after a long and heroic battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He passed peacefully in his home with his loving wife and family by his side.
Allen was born in Merced, CA, on July 22, 1952, to Braulio and Mary Velasquez. He spent his young childhood years being loved and cared for at his maternal grandparent's home, Marcial and Loretta Villegas. Allen also enjoyed family BBQs with his parents and siblings at Henderson Park and Yosemite Lake. Growing up as the 2nd oldest brother, Allen was recognized as a powerful presence that had it all together. He was a mentor for all his siblings and continued to be throughout their lives. In school, Allen had a tenacious and confident personality that everyone wanted to be around. He managed to make lasting impressions on his classmates and teachers, even with recess being his favorite subject.
After high school, Allen served in the United States Army as an Armorer Supply Specialist in 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment at Coleman Kaserne in Gelnhausen, Germany. Allen was very proud of his time and service to his country and continued to honor the United States of America until his passing.
Allen was a versatile craftsman who excelled at whatever he set his mind out to do. He worked in a variety of career fields including hospitality for the rich and famous, sales, and construction. Allen stated his greatest career achievement was his work with Maxwell Homes as a Finish Detailer.
To those who knew him, Allen was the coolest guy on the block and was revered by many. He always held himself to a high standard of integrity and strength while ensuring he was dressed to the nines in his perfectly creased clothes, good smelling cologne, invaluable jewelry, and classic black Ray Bans. Allen was a free spirit who loved life and loved having a good time. He always had a smile on his face and a genuine laugh you could recognize anywhere. Allen was always the life of the party with his quick wit and comedic genius. He chose not to stress over things he could not control, which likely contributed to his youthful and ageless appearance up to his last breath. Even with his larger-than- life personality, Allen was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. If you were a friend of Allen's, you had a friend for life. Family and friends' old school and new, would hang out at his house to BBQ, play horseshoes, and listen to oldies until the sun went down. Allen never said no to a friendly competitive game of dominoes, scrabble, foosball, billiards, or "shoes". He was also a billiard team captain for The Cue Spot.
Allen loved being a father, father-figure, and grandfather. He always made sure his family was supported and protected while guiding them with his knowledge, wisdom, love, and laughter. One of Allen's greatest joys was becoming a grandfather and being a part of their lives as much as he possibly could. To see his face light up in the presence of his grandchildren, was a site for sore eyes.
Allen was also a proud husband to the love of his life, Linda. Allen and Linda created a beautiful life together, full of fun and genuine love for one another. Linda stood by his side through all the ups and downs of his illness showing care and true love for her handsome husband.
Throughout his long battle with PSP, Allen showed remarkable strength and dignity. His sharp mind and perseverance never wavered, even in the face of his illness. He fought the good fight until the very end, leaving a lasting impression of resilience and bravery.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Braulio and Mary. He is survived by his wife Linda, brother Paul, sisters Lydia "Lee" (Foster), Ramona "Mo" (Robin), daughter's Raquel (Ray), Natasha "Woodles" (Tony), stepdaughters (Angela (Lisa) and Deanna), eight grandchildren (Anthony, Brittany, Brandy, Elisa, Madelynn, Tobe, Dustin, and Annie), and two great-grandchildren (Camila Ray, and Andrew Allen).
His love for life and his infectious laughter are memories we will always cherish. And although Allen will be greatly missed by those who loved him, his family and friends have peace in knowing he gave his life to the Lord and has been set free from his illness. A private burial will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery with a Celebration of Life later at Club Mercedes.
2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
