Dale Wood, 47, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 26, 2024. He was born in Richmond, Virginia, on November 21, 1976, to Barbara Shari Olden (Moore). He graduated from Colonial Heights High School in 1995. He was an extraordinary athlete, excelling in every sport he played, including baseball, basketball, football, and swimming. He was recognized in the local newspapers for his outstanding performance for The Colonials. He was even offered a sports scholarship for his amazing ability to play baseball. Dale was known for being kind, caring, and loving. Funny is an understatement; he was hilarious. He could make anyone smile, even on their darkest of days. Dale was loyal, dedicated, and devoted to his family and friends. He had a strong work ethic and proved to be a talented painter and skilled drywall finisher. He was a brave, charming, handsome man with a warm smile and a big heart. Many of his former classmates remember him for being the outgoing guy that every girl crushed on in high school. His sister and only sibling will never forget their teenage spats over the telephone and whose turn it was to use it. And although they fought over the phone, she always looked up to him for everything while growing up. His mother will remember him for being so full of love; even while he endured his own pain and suffering, he still kept a smile on his face and never spoke a bad word about anyone. He carried the weight of the world on his shoulders but carried his loved ones in his heart.

Dale was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Jimmie and Willie Mae Hardin; grandparents Gerald and Margie Wood; grandfather, Joseph Mosconi; and uncle, Steve Wood. He is survived by his grandmother, Jean Mosconi; mother, Shari Olden; sister, Angela Sharp (Tom); mother of his children and former wife, Amanda Conway-Wood; five children, Gavin, Andrew, Jacob, Briana and Hudson; granddaughter, Lola Daniels; aunts, Kathy Cimburke and Brenda Rosenberg; uncles, Dave (Bubba) Moore, Houston (Steve) Moore, and Mike Moore; nephew, Jaelin Frank (Haileigh); niece, Hailey Fink; great nephew, Whitten Frank; cousins, Samantha Phillips-Wall, Jeff Moore, Jesse Phillips and Austin Rosenberg; close friends, Johnny Hauler, Forrest Ozmore, Raymond Davis, Ryan Coleman, John O’Carroll, Chris Zoldork and Kris Long; and long time girlfriend, Suzy Jensen. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. His memory will carry on in our hearts forever.

Dale’s family will welcome friends and loved ones for a viewing on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will be private. Dale’s family is requesting monetary donations instead of flowers to help with the memorial costs.
