Alma Hetzel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2025.
Alma Vickers Hetzel, 88, of Newhall California, left us unexpectedly on September 17, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Alma was known for her kindness, her devotion to family and love for God.

Alma was born August 4, 1937 in Newhall to Roy and Edith Vickers. One of five siblings, Alma grew up in Highland Park, but often spent her weekends and summers with her grandparents in Newhall.

After graduating high school, Alma married her childhood sweetheart Dale Hetzel in 1956. They moved to Newhall where they raised four children and were active in their church and community affairs.

Alma loved baking, sewing and gardening, skills she taught her children and grandchildren. Her expertly decorated cakes were always requested at family gatherings.

Alma was proud of the fact that she was a fourth generation resident of the Santa Clarita Valley. Her great grandparents arrived in 1910 and lived in Mentryville, west of Newhall. She often said she was born in the front room of her grandparents Art and Bessie Brown's home on Newhall Avenue, across the street from where Wm S. Hart High School stands today.

Alma is survived by her husband of 69 years Dale Hetzel, daughter's Jennie (Leonard) McKinley, Susan (Steve) Garland, son Andrew (Kristine) Hetzel, brother Albert (Margie) Vickers, sister-in-law Nancy Vickers, ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Roy and Edith Vickers, brothers Lee and Keven Vickers, sister Bessie Crow, and her son Daniel Hetzel.

Alma's final wishes were to be cremated. No services are planned. She will always be remembered for her kindness and her devotion to family and friends.
