Alma Margretta Mitchell (Titmas), 80, wife of Ronald William Mitchell, died Monday, June 23, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter, surrounded by her family.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Ellis L. Titmas and the late Helen S. Titmas.
Alma graduated as Valedictorian of Cumberland High School, Rhode Island, and received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Rhode Island. Alma was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Los Angeles AFS, where she met her husband, Captain Ronald W. Mitchell. Alma received her Master's in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland. She pursued a Doctorate of Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia and was selected as the Director of Academic Skills at the University of South Carolina. Alma went on to pursue her lifelong dream and graduated from Central Carolina Technical College as a Registered Nurse, while in her 60's, and was employed at Tuomey Hospital.
Alma volunteered for numerous organizations throughout her life, to include Meals on Wheels and as a Cub Scout Den Leader in Plattsburgh, New York, the Mental Health Clinic on Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, the Women's Shelter in Sumter, South Carolina, and the V.A. Alma was a lifelong learner and avid reader. She could not resist doting lovingly on her family and pets, often gifting books to her grandchildren and anybody else. Alma adored preparing amazingly creative and unique meals for family celebrations. Alma enjoyed swimming, ice skating, cross-country skiing, traveling the world, cozy mountain cabins and the New England coastline.

Titmas, Jr. (Skip) and his wife, Colleen; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
