Alphonso DeCarlo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Louis C. Galzerano Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Jan. 3, 2026.
Alphonso DeCarlo, 82, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at his home in Northeast Philadelphia.

Al was the loving husband for 60 years of Grace (DiBella) DeCarlo and the amazing father of Lisa Morris (DeCarlo) and Laura DeCarlo (fiancé Mike Mallon). He was a wonderful brother of Arlene (Nick), Antoinette (Frank) and Alexis (Tom). A super fun uncle to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war. After serving his country he returned to Philadelphia to marry his sweetheart, Grace. They were blessed with two daughters that he cherished and would tell you "They" were both the apple of his eye. He was a loving brother to his three sisters that he would enjoy tormenting as only a brother could!

Al worked has a union plumber for over 30 years. He was so proud that he did the plumbing for Veterans Stadium, Neshaminy Mall and the Philadelphia Airport, bringing a souvenir home with him from each job site, i.e.: Broad Street line signs, subway benches...etc. He was also an engineer at heart and could fix anything that needed fixing, calling his garage his "operating room". Through the years he has gathered many friends who adored him and cherished his friendship, as he did theirs in return.

He never missed a chance to tell a joke, that always made "him" laugh. You couldn't take one step onto 8805 without a "what can I get ya, shot and a beer?" He enjoyed taking care of his property, planting that amazing garden with plenty of hot peppers but most of all he loved capturing life's precious moments on film, he was never without his camera. Nobody told a story better than Al. His story telling will be missed by all.

Al was the perfect role model for his family. He taught us all how to work hard, love unconditionally, and enjoy every moment.

In Closing ...Al's favorite Toast ...

"Here's to it and to it again, if you don't do it when you get to it, here's to it that you don't get to it to do it again."

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, January 9th from 10:30 to 11:30am at the Maternity BVM Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Avenue Phila PA 19115. His Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30am. Interment will be held privately.

Al and I attended Father Judge High School. After graduation we joined the US Navy, separately but the same installation, with Ed and Steve Amrein. We all traveled in one car to the meeting nights, at great speeds to be on time. Al was always telling new jokes he picked up as we traveled to the meetings. He had a great sense of humor. The back yard barbeques we're just as much fun with all new jokes. Al was proud of his back yard and his pool. He was an artist too. He took pieces of metal and made articles of art which he displayed in the yard.. Very talented.
We continued are friendship with other Judge grads over the years at luncheons sharing our life issues and family fun. I didn't get to go in 2025 and don't know if there was a luncheon. I'm going to miss Al.

I have many fond memories of Al. His picnics not only included delicious food including home grown vegetables, especially those red hot peppers but also entertainment with his many jokes and stories. He will be missed by many. I was blessed to have known him.

We met Al at a Nasuti gathering in Maple Shade! I knew right away that he was very special. Grace loved him and he adored her. His jokes were so funny and memorable! I´m living in Florida but will never forget the joy he brought to our life. Rest in peace Al!!!
