Al was a 1974 graduate of Hackensack High School and received his bachelor's degree in 1978 from the University of New Haven where he was an integral member of the men's soccer team and played in the NCAA Division II championship game in 1976. He later received his executive MBA from Steven's Institute of Technology. He had recently retired after a more than 40-year career as a manufacturing engineer at L3Harris in Clifton, NJ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Vilma; his children Cristian (Danielle) Barrios, Leslie (David) Barrios Marcelino, and Jonathan Barrios; and his two grandchildren Luke and TJ. He is also survived by his parents, Victor and Evangelina Barrios; his siblings Tina (Michael) Goyette, Elena (Rafael) Pita, and Victor (Lisa) Barrios. He is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Betsy, the wife of his brother, Richard Barrios. He is also predeceased by his father-in-law, Manuel Troya. He will be forever loved and remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Al was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his close-knit family with music playing and an infectious laugh that was loved by all. An avid New York Yankees fan, he would spend many nights with the game on and a cold beer in his hand. Al loved playing with his two grandchildren and will always hold them close to his heart.

I knew Alvaro since 6th grade. Was a fellow graduate of Hackensack High School class of 1974. As everyone who knew him can say, he brought joy to those lucky enough to have known him. Always remember his smile. He loved life and will be missed. Godspeed my friend.

Alvaro was a classmate at UNH. Although I didn't play soccer, I lived in an apartment building with several players and got to know Alvaro. He was one of the kindest and funniest guys around, quick with that smile and hearty laugh. We all were lucky to share his presence in college.

He was an excellant soccer player. He graduated HHS with my sister, who also was HHS first black valdectorian Edna Bailey. I graduated with Richard, class of 1976. May he and my sister rest with Father God in peace. Much love to Richard and the family. My prayers are with you. Always Tara

To the family, I didn't know him personally but would always say hello as we passed by each other in the hallways at L3. He always had a smile on his face and gave me the impression he was a very kind person. So sorry for the loss of your loved one. May he be at rest until God our Father comes for all of His children.
