Alvin Foster, a resident of Gettysburg, PA, proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, and United States Air Force veteran, passed away peacefully in Hagerstown, MD on October 6, 2025 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Hugo, OK on July 30, 1952 to the late Andrew Foster and Lura (Tonubbee) Foster. He is survived by his wife Dianne (Coyle) Foster and their three children, Stephanie Foster of Providence, RI, Matthew Foster and wife Morgan Alban of Hagerstown, MD, and Courtney Foster of Damascus, MD. He is also survived by two brothers Kenneth Foster (Sherron) and Adam Foster (Roxanna) of Oklahoma City, OK and other extended family. Mr. Foster was predeceased by his brother Darrel Foster. Alvin enjoyed celebrating his Native American heritage, fishing, hiking, running, gardening, photography, building things, and spending time with his family. After graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1974, he spent 5 1/2 years in the US Air Force at the Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Omaha, NE. In 1980, he moved to Maryland and began a career in private industry as an Information Security professional in the Washington Metropolitan Area. He subsequently worked in the US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Indian Education, and Office of the CIO for over 17 years until his retirement in 2022. Private services will be held for the family.
