Alvin Drannon Whorton, Jr., age 83 of Church Hill, TN passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving family at his home on Sunday, May 26, 2025, after an extended illness.
Alvin was born to Jean Victoria (Frazier) Whorton and Alvin Drannon Whorton, Sr. on December 16, 1941, in Greenville, MS. He and his mother later moved to Jackson, TN, where she married Doval Tisdale. Alvin then began junior high and there he met the love of his life and future wife, Barbara Lee (Yates) Whorton. After graduation, Alvin joined the U.S. Airforce and began his family. He later retired from Alstom Power, INC. in Knoxville, TN.
Alvin was preceded in death by his two daughters, Lori Jean Whorton, and Tracy Lee (Whorton) Cole; and 3 grandchildren, David Houston Cole and wife, Brandy, and Jayme Brook Cole.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Whorton; two sons, Alvin "Terry" Whorton (Pamela Salley), and John Drannon Whorton (Wendy); grandchildren, Aaron Whorton (Naseem), Taylor Lawson (Jeremy), Rachel Black (Patrick), Ashley Vaughn (Andrew), and Tyler Hope; sister, May Louise (Tisdale) Zumwalt (Jim); two brothers, Norwood Tisdale (Hope), and Gary Tisdale; sister-in-law, Jo Ann (Yates) Richardson; brother-in-law, John Wesley Yates (Darcy); eight great grandchildren; as well as multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will follow the funeral service in precession to Church Hill Memory Gardens.
