WATERTOWN – It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Alvyda French, age 86, of Watertown, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, shares the news of her peaceful passing on Friday, October 2, 2025, at the Apple Health and Rehab.

Alvyda was born on March 28, 1939, in Marijampole, Lithuania. Alvyda and her family returned to her father’s home country of the United States and settled in Waterbury as they escaped the perils of World War II. Alvyda faced many hardships throughout her life and despite it all, she always maintained a positive outlook on life. She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and fond memories. Alvyda graduated from the Waterbury school system and went on to continue her education at Post College where she earned her associate’s degree in accounting. Alvyda devoted many years of her life to her career as an accountant in the banking industry, enduringly serving at First Federal Savings before retiring from Webster Bank. Her meticulous nature and dedication made her a valued member of her team, and she was respected by colleagues and clients alike. She cultivated beauty in everything around her, particularly through her passion for gardening, where she found joy in nurturing vibrant flowers that mirrored her gentle spirit. She adored working outside in her yard with her plants and flowers. A loving mother to her sons, Ken and Rich French, Alvyda took immense pride in her family. She found it most important to ensure that her sons always remained on the right path in life. She found boundless joy in spending time with her grandchildren, creating treasured memories that will forever remain in their hearts. Alvyda enjoyed the company of her friends, making countless weekend trips to visit the local casinos with her good friend Cookie Pelletier and her sisters-in-law, Trudy and Lorraine. Laughter and friendship thrived when they were together. Her spirit of camaraderie and fun will be fondly remembered by all who shared in those joyful moments.

Alvyda will forever remain in our hearts, a gentle flower blossoming in our memories, and her light will continue to shine brightly in all who loved her.

Left to honor her memory and legacy are her sons, Kenneth French and his wife Kelly of Thomaston, and Richard French of Watertown, her beloved grandchildren; Blaine and Shannon French, her sister, Danute “Donna” Malakauskas and her husband Mario Venclauskas, and her sisters-in-law Lorraine French and Trudy McWeeney as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Alvyda is predeceased by her ex-husband Kenneth French and her brothers-in-law, Willard “Bill” E. French and Charles “Chuck” McWeeney.

The French family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Apple Health and Rehab for their attentiveness, hands on care, and comfort throughout the last year of Alvyda’s life.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay respects, and visit with the French family on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 10:45 at the Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care 742 Main St Oakville CT 06779. A prayer service for Alvyda will be held at 10:45 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
