Alyce Joan Lizzi was born on November 2, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Carl and Jessie (Spaulding) Peterson. She passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 with her loved ones by her side. Alyce had one sister, June Patitucci, who preceded her in death.
Alyce was a lifelong resident of the South Bend, Mishawaka and Granger areas. She graduated from Clay High School in 1954 where she made many lifelong friends. She married Thomas Charles Lizzi on May 29, 1959, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her two children, Christopher Lizzi and Karen (Chris) Cason; daughter-in-law, Loretta Lizzi; grandchildren: Anthony (Ashley) Lizzi, Thomas (Samantha) Lizzi, Tyler (Brittany) Lizzi, Molly (Michael) Perkins, Ryan (Kelli) Cason and Carly (Ben Ferracciolo) Cason; four great-grandchildren: Amelia, Ben, Carson and Anthony Joseph Jr.; brother-in-law, Samuel Lizzi; as well as her nephew, Skip (Susan) Patitucci.
After Tom and Alyce married, they set off for Bloomington so that Tom could attend Indiana University following his service in the Air Force. While there, Alyce worked for the Office of Administration as a receptionist. Upon Tom’s graduation they returned home to the South Bend area to continue building their family. Alyce enjoyed playing tennis and golf, making many great friends during her years as a member of Knollwood Country Club. As a mother and grandmother, she was her children’s biggest supporter, attending numerous tennis tournaments and swim meets throughout their childhood. Her enthusiasm continued with her grandchildren, as she cheered them on at their sporting events and dance recitals, always being their most devoted fan.
Known for her keen sense of fashion, delicious apple pies, and spaghetti dinners, Alyce was a wonderful entertainer. She was voted the wittiest in her class, and her humor was ever-present. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at StoryPoint of Granger, Dr. Sylvana Atallah, and Ascent Hospice for the care they provided to Alyce over the past several years.
