Major Alyce M. Wallin, 99, of Dixon, IL, died at 10:45 am on Friday, December 27, 2024, at her daughter's home, where she had resided the past 14 years.
Alyce was born on November 28, 1925, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Swedish immigrants Eric & Goldie (Melin) Samuelson. Alyce married Ehlert Wallin on September 29, 1949, in Moline, IL. After graduating from The Salvation Army School for Officers Training in Chicago, she proudly served alongside her husband as a Salvation Army officer, for 43 years, retiring in 1989.
Alyce was the crown jewel of her family - recently celebrating her 99th birthday on Thanksgiving and her 100th Christmas on this earth. She survived 35 daily cancer treatments at age 96. At 97, she proudly performed her first wedding for her granddaughter. Alyce could sing, play anything on the piano (by music or by ear), including organ & accordion. She did oil painting and counted cross stitch before she lost her sight. She was a talented speech & sermon writer. Alyce was known for all her interesting stories starting with the Great Depression and on.
Alyce is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Henry) Rivera; grandchildren, Chad (Meagan) Rivera & Sierra (Trevor) Childers; two great-grandchildren, Owen Rivera & Violet Childers, all of Dixon.
Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ehlert; and her brother, Kenneth Samuelson.
A Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with Lieutenant Colonel Dan and Becky Sjoren, officiating. Private Family Burial will take place the following day at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon, IL.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
