Alysia J. Madden (1988–2026) was born in
Portsmouth, Virginia, to Mustafa Malik (Donald Madden) and Ophelia Johnson (Madden). She was raised in the Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Richmond Public School Systems. Following her graduation, Alysia honorably served her country in the United States Navy as a Radar Specialist (OS) for six years.
Driven by her passion for helping others, she went on to earn an associate's degree in the dental field and served as a Dental Assistant, where her joyful spirit and laughter touched everyone around her. Alysia, alongside her sisters and brothers, enjoyed music, singing, and dancing. Throughout her youth, she also enjoyed basketball and double-dutch, but her greatest love was for children.
Alysia's courage and compassion were evident from an early age. At just seven years old, she saved her siblings from a burning home. Years later, while babysitting, she endured a home invasion and was held at gunpoint, yet she protected the two children in her care. These defining moments reflected the bravery and selflessness she carried throughout her life.
In 2021, Alysia received a breast cancer diagnosis that marked the beginning of her greatest battle. She faced every stage of her illness with unwavering faith and determination. Even in the face of tremendous adversity, Alysia remained resilient, hopeful, and anchored in her love for God and her family.
Alysia loved the Lord and dedicated her life to Christ. She was a faithful member and sound technician at Powerful Living Ministries in Chesapeake, Virginia, from its inception, and she also served on the praise team. She cherished New Beginnings Christian Outreach Ministries and often accompanied her mother on preaching assignments. Above all, Alysia loved her two daughters more than life itself. They were her greatest inspiration-her "why"-and the driving force behind all her pursuits.
Our precious Alysia departed this life on Wednesday morning, January 28, 2026, at 7:30 a.m. at the VA Medical Center in
Hampton, Virginia. "At ease, soldier."
She was predeceased by her brother, Donald Raymos Reid. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her parents, Mustafa Malik (Delores,
Hughesville, MD) and Ophelia Madden (
Winterville, NC); grandmothers, Rose Johnson and Pat Madden; beloved daughters, Alyvia Likely (
Suffolk, VA) and Leilani Clements (
Portsmouth, VA); siblings, Rebe Madden (
Suffolk, VA), Sakina Madden (
Suffolk, VA), Omar Madden (CT), and Marcus Madden (
Portsmouth, VA); 11 aunts-Raja, Rebecca, Maxine, Jackie, Gwen, Lisa, Anne, Lou, Donna, Patrice, and Evora; 6 uncles-Nicholas, Alton, Dale, Trent, Kenny, and Ali and a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and cherished friends whom she loved deeply.
Alysia's memory will forever live in our hearts. We will continue to stand united and advocate for cancer survivors and victims of hospital acquired sepsis in her honor.
