Amalia Ochoa Longoria, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024, at her residence in Abram, TX, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 29, 1932, in Abram, Texas, to the late Cornelio Ochoa and Bertha Villarreal, Amalia lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
Amalia was a beacon of warmth and love to everyone who knew her. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, she touched countless lives with her kindness and generosity. Her legacy of love lives on in her four beloved children: Reymundo (Jean), Gustavo (Patricia), Enedina, and Lucilla Longoria. Her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren will forever cherish her memory, especially remembering her boundless love and patience in caring for them. She is also remembered fondly by her siblings Lino (Odilia +) Ochoa, Dalia (Celestino) Mendiola, and Oralia (Rodolfo +) Rodriguez, along with her siblings-in-law Leobardo (Paulita +) Longoria and Idolina (Ramiro +) Longoria, and many dear nieces and nephews.
A woman of remarkable talents, Amalia was an amazing seamstress and an extraordinary cook. Her pan de polvo and tamales were legendary, bringing joy to family gatherings and community events alike. Amalia's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she successfully led the family business, Ochoa's Grocery and Gasoline Station, as the second generation at its helm.
Her commitment to her community was unwavering. Amalia served on the board for the cemetery in Abram, Texas, and was a key member of her community, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her compassion extended to driving a van for senior citizens in her town, ensuring they were always cared for. Additionally, Amalia had a green thumb and took great pride in her garden, cultivating beauty and tranquility.
Amalia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonel Longoria, and her siblings-in-law, Jose Leonzo and Virginia Longoria; Alicia and Eliseo Villarreal; and Leonardo Longoria Jr., and Maria Oralia Longoria.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 4 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Flores Funeral Home in Mission, TX. A mass to celebrate Amalia's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Mary's Magdalena in Abram, TX. Burial will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Abram, TX.
