Amanda Mae Mitchell, 63, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the House at Midland Care. Amanda was born April 23, 1962, in Topeka, the daughter of Mayo A. Mitchell, Sr. and Betty Jean Gray Mitchell. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1979 and attended Washburn University. Amanda was an active member of Highland Crest Seven Day Adventist Church. Amanda was employed by the State of Kansas in the Revenue Department, retiring in October of 2020. She worked for the city as a caregiver for the mentally challenged to whom she also taught Bible Studies. Amanda was deeply caring, kind, thoughtful and in love with the Lord. She will be greatly missed. Singing and cooking gave Amanda much joy! She loved doing both and loved feeding family and friends; no one could possibly go hungry with her servings. She was greatly talented, had a wonderful eye for interior design and enjoyed creating art: painting and sculpting. Amanda leaves to cherish her memory her son G. Emanuel Mitchell (Jesika); granddaughters, Adia, E'nnik, Anna and RaJeana; her significant other, Edward Haynes; her sister, Ilona Dorsey (Mike); her brother, Mayo Mitchell, Jr.; and nieces and nephews. Amanda was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Martha Watkins-Miller, Dorothy Scott, Mary Mitchell, Jean Mitchell; her niece, Jessica Mitchell; nephew, Justice Mitchell; sister-in-law, Sam Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Konard Miller. Memorial service for Amanda will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
