Amanda Shaw Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Charter Funeral Home on Mar. 15, 2026.
Amanda Blair Shaw, 92, of Trussville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on September 7, 1933, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, she was the daughter of John Frederick and Ora Kelly Blair.

Amanda graduated from Florence State University (now the University of North Alabama) in1955, earning a degree in Home Economics and Elementary Education. She dedicated over 20 years to teaching elementary school in Jefferson County, impacting the lives of many students.

Amanda was deeply committed to her family and community. As a member of the Ladies Sodality, she found great purpose in her devotion to her parish. Her compassion reached beyond the church through her work with the annual "Giving Tree" and years of service with Meals on Wheels, where she provided both a meal and a moment of connection to her neighbors. Her heart for others was also reflected in her long-standing support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Amanda's legacy of service and her commitment to fostering fellowship are woven into the community she loved so dearly.

She is survived by her children: Joseph W. Shaw Jr. (Randi), John D. Shaw (Robbie), Robert B. Shaw (Pam), Ann S. King (Bill), and James R. Shaw (Heather). Amanda also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: David Shaw, Chris Shaw, Amanda Bacon (Chris), Leah Shaw, Allison Sullivan (David), Eric Shaw, Michael King (Lake), Daniel King (Laura), and Pauli Block, along with 11 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her dear sister and best friend, Loulie Brown, her sister-in-law, Beth Blair, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Amanda was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph W. Shaw Sr.; her parents, John F. and Ora K. Blair; her brother, John C. Blair; and her grandchildren, Jason Andrew Shaw and Taylor Peyton Kling.

To assure all family members can be present, services have been scheduled for April 25, 2026, at Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church. Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by the Funeral Mass from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

A celebration of Amanda's life will also be held by her friends and family in Tennessee on March 22, 2026. This celebration of life luncheon will take place at David Crockett State Park (Pavilion#3) from 1:00 PM until done. All family and friends are welcome.
