Amaya Michaela Mills Sharkey, cherished daughter, devoted wife, nurturing mother, and beloved friend, passed away on October 24, 2025, in
Richlands, North Carolina. Born on July 28, 2002, in Torrington, Connecticut, Amaya's journey through life was filled with love, kindness, and the pursuit of her passions. She was 23 years old.
Amaya was a vibrant soul whose warmth and generosity touched everyone she met. Her academic excellence and dedication were evident as a member of the National Honors Society, a testament to her commitment to both learning and community service. Professionally, she contributed greatly as an Office Manager at Schilsky Chiropractic, where she rose to leadership quickly and her compassionate nature shone brightly.
Her interests were as diverse as they were passionate. An ardent fan of anime, she particularly enjoyed "Jujutsu Kaisen", finding joy and inspiration in its stories. Amaya also spent many happy moments with TikToks, sharing her light-hearted spirit with the world. Music and dance were central to her life; she sang in the chorus and expressed herself through dance, bringing joy to those around her.
Above all, Amaya was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her husband, Xavier Sharkey, was her constant source of happiness, always able to make her smile. Together, they shared a beautiful family, blessed with two beloved children, Grayson Mills Sharkey and Melody Sharkey. Family was at the heart of Amaya's life, where her selfless nature made her the central point of connection and love with all of her family members. Her caring heart was a sanctuary for friends and family alike, always standing up for what she believed in and offering support to all who needed it. Her love for Dr. Pepper was a charming quirk that her visiting family knew well, often fulfilling her simple request to bring one along.
Amaya is survived by her loving husband, Xavier, and their precious children, Grayson and Melody. She leaves behind her father, Clayton Mills (Jolene) of Jacksonville; her mother, Sandra Mills (Zechariah Davis) of Richlands; her mother-in-law, Brandy Sharkey (Kerry) of Richlands; and her grandmothers, Ellen Milenese and Kim Kerski Dore. Her siblings, Matthew Mills, Natalie Mills, Beau Mills, Austin Kish, McKenzie Mills, Polly Mills, and Star Mills, all of Richlands, along with Christopher Sharkey of Richlands and Damien Sharkey of Fayetteville, will forever cherish her memory. Amaya's circle of love extended to her good friend Maydeline Sharp and Ms. Dora Sprague, who was not only her "boss" but also her special friend and coworker.
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Amaya's life will be held on Sunday November 2 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Johnson Funeral Home of Richlands (210 W. Hargett Street).
