Amelia "Amy" M. Szalay, (nee Hovan) age 86 of Richfield, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 7, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Raymond E.; loving mother of Raymond (Patricia), Sharon Garrison (Dan, deceased), David and Ken (Gina); cherished grandmother of Daniel (Becky), Matthew (Cameron), Christopher (Rachel) and Thomas (Yavi) Garrison, and the late Ashley and Christine Szalay; dearest great-grandmother of Jacob, Calvin, Henry, and Charlotte Garrison; dear sister of John Hovan and the late Geraldine Beaver and Joseph Hovan.
Amy was born in Cleveland and grew up in the historic Hungarian neighborhood along Buckeye Road. She attended grade school at St. Elizabeth's parish there and then Jane Addams High School, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class.
She married Ray, the love of her life, on June 7, 1958, whom she met while working together at Orban's Flowers on Buckeye Road. She also worked for GE Lighting at Nela Park, where she served in a variety of ever advancing roles during her tenure there.
Amy, in addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, enjoyed a variety of interests beyond her loving family life. She loved to play & watch golf, go boating on the lake and by the beach, traveling, surfing the net, exercising at her local rec center, activities with her women's group and most of all - cooking fabulous meals for family and friends. She was also a lifelong Cleveland Indians & Browns fan!
She will be greatly missed by all those who had the good fortune to have known her.
Friends will be received at Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home, 8150 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44141 on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 2:00-4:30 pm with Amy's funeral service to begin at 4:30 pm.
