Amon L "Chip" Baucom Jr.

Amon Lovell Baucom Jr, also known as Chippy (Chip) passed away peacefully in his home on October 30, 2023.
Chip was born on July 8, 1949 to Amon and Imogene Baucom and was raised in Charlotte, NC with his three siblings. He attended Myers Park High School where he met his wife Lynne. He graduated in 1967 and continued his education at Wingate University. He was a business partner who worked with and for his family business, Baucom's Nursery Company for 50 years before retiring in 2012.
Chip was an accomplished hunter, marksman, softball player and football player. He had an incredible mathematical mind that could recall dates and calculate figures before you could put it in a calculator. He was successful at anything he put his mind to. Chip was the North American Champion Pigeon shooter in 1982 and won state Championships in PA, IL, KY, GA, FL, MI, NC, and SC. He was a legend known as "the best" and the "only man who could shoot a pigeon before it flew out of the box, falling back in". He was one of kind with a remarkable talent for marksmanship. He won 39 overall state championships in skeet and clay shooting and was the overall State Champion 3 years in a row for sporting clays in NC and SC. He had a love for building cars, buying guns and exotic hunting trips.
Chip was a man's man - one you never challenged to a head butt or stuck a weak hand shake out to. He could hurt your feelings in one sentence then leave you with a witty one liner in the next. He was tough as nails, but under his gruff exterior he had a soft heart for his family and the ones who knew him best.
Chip is preceded in death by his wife Lynne, son Shane and both parents. He is survived by his faithful son Jason (Christy) Baucom, granddaughters Brayden and Aubrey Baucom and grandson Travis Baucom, sisters Carol (Chip) Holden, Angela (Wes) Livingston and brother Gary (Pat) Baucom as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private family ceremony and burial will be held according to his wishes and how he "meant for it to be".
