Obituary published on Legacy.com by Valley Funeral Home on Jul. 22, 2025.
Sandra "Sue" Baucom, age 73, of Erwin, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Center on Aging and Health, surrounded by her family, after fighting a courageous battle with ALS. Sue was a devoted Christian, having been a member of Hulen Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She worked for Magnavox and Plasco until taking early retirement to care for her 3 grandchildren. She was a beautiful, selfless, caring, and compassionate woman, who served as caregiver for multiple family members, providing care during their illnesses and up until their final days. Sue raised her grandchildren in church and taught them the importance of salvation and living for the Lord. When you saw her, you could see the light of Jesus shine beautifully through her. Sue loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially her 3 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her church family, raising a garden and blessing people with the vegetables, fishing, Vera Bradley purses, watching her grandsons play sports and attending every practice and game, Diet Dr. Enuf, and the Tennessee Volunteers. Sue had the biggest, most beautiful smile, and she kept that smile throughout her sickness, even on her rough days. She was always positive. She had a positive attitude, always saying "everything works out according to God's plan" and she lived her life by that phrase having faith that God always had a plan and worked it out. In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by her son, JJ Sparks; daughter, Leslie Baucom; and brother, Ronnie "RD" Davis.
Sandra "Sue" Baucom has left behind to cherish her memory: husband of 50 years, Bobby Baucom; grandchildren: Brittany Sparks Bellamy (Ryan), Abigail Sparks (Dustin), and Hunter Downard; great-grandchildren: Brayden Sumlin, Houston Johnson, and Journey Johnson; brother, Larry Davis (Sally); and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer special thanks to her caregivers throughout her illness, her granddaughters, Brittany and Abby, as well as Lori Casey. They would also like to thank the many family members and friends who showed her support and love through visits, calls and by providing meals for Sue and Bobby; to Gentiva Hospice, the staff at Center on Aging and Health, the staff at Cherokee Mountain Medical, and to her special friend, Marcella Peterson.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Sandra "Sue" Baucom in a funeral service to be held Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Ferrell Peterson and Pastor Scott Woodby will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by Debbie and Ray Mitchell. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 pm on Wednesday and will continue until service time at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Haun-White Cemetery. Those attending the committal service should meet at Valley Funeral Home by 9:30 am on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
