Andrea Ducey, 64, of Marion, MA, passed away on December 17, 2024, following a brief illness. She was cared for at Boston Medical Center and eventually UMass University Campus where she was surrounded by family and friends in her final days.
Andrea was born in 1960 in Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late John E. and Virginia F. (Birbiglia) Korbett, both originally from New York City. She is survived by her cousin Dona Marchi of Watervliet, New York and her two daughters, Shannon and Melissa. She was previously married to Barry Dower and Jason Ducey.
Andrea grew up in Northborough and later lived in Worcester, Paxton, and Cape Cod before retiring in Marion. Andrea's passion for food and hospitality began early, and she attended Assabet Valley Regional High School with a focus on Culinary Arts. She furthered her education at Fisher Junior College, earning an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1984.
Throughout her career, Andrea worked in a variety of management and service roles at local restaurants and hotels, including The Crown Plaza Hotel in Natick, Bertucci's, Naked Fish, The Lobster Boat, and the Wyndam Hotel. Known for her warmth, professionalism, and sharp sense of humor, Andrea was an empathetic manager who was beloved by her staff. Her caring nature and supportive attitude left a lasting impact.
Andrea was a dedicated animal lover and spent countless hours volunteering at local shelters and clinics. She especially cared for the well-being of animals at "It's All About the Animals," a cage-free, no-kill shelter in Rochester, MA. Andrea devoted her time to adopting and rehabilitating the most challenging cases, providing a safe and loving home to many animals in need over the years. She cared deeply for her cat "Little Lady" for the last 8 years.
In addition to her love for animals, Andrea was an avid reader and cherished time spent by the ocean. She was a talented dancer all her life with formal training in her adolescent years. She had one day hoped to open her own studio and she frequently won dance contests at Boston's iconic club Narcissus at its height in the 80's. "Picture Irene Cara in Flashdance" one friend recalled. Her kindness, humor, and caring nature were a source of strength and comfort to those who knew her.
Andrea is survived by many lifelong friends including Paul Foran, Octavio Diaz, Sharon Messina, John Stein, Melanie Carlsen, and the countless lives she touched with her compassion and generosity. She will be dearly missed.
A private memorial will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "It's All About the Animals" in Rochester, MA - https://www.itsallabouttheanimals.org/
