Andrew Demos Benny, born on March 18, 1934, passed away peacefully at age 90 on October 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 65 years, Darlene Benny, whom he met just before entering the military and married soon after he was discharged with honors from the United States Marine Corp. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, family, and cherished memories.
Andrew leaves behind his four sons: Mark Benny and his wife Sheila, Ted Benny and his wife Leslie, Ron Benny, and John Benny. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Michelle Pitcel (spouse Cameron), Meghan Verdu (spouse Ralph), Joshua Benny, Sabrina Benny, Hannah Benny, Ian Benny, and step-grandchild, Arlyn Tobergte. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters but is survived by his sisters Pat Burd and Mary Ann Green.
Andrew was born in Warren, Ohio to the late Charles and Angelina Benny. Over the years, the family moved to Michigan where Andrew was raised. A graduate of River Rouge High School, Andrew spent over 30 years working as a milkman. His career began with house deliveries and grew to include factory and store routes, eventually leading to a management position. Known for his unmatched work ethic, Andrew never missed a day of work due to sickness and only missed work once due to a snowstorm in Indiana.
Andrew's greatest joy was spending time with his wife, Darlene. Whether they were camping, working in the yard, or enjoying vacations at Massanutten Resort, their bond was unbreakable. He also loved working on projects around the house, tinkering with cars, and traveling with friends in his earlier years. His character was defined by honesty, fairness, and a strong moral compass-values he passed on to his family. Andrew believed in treating people fairly, never starting a fight but never backing down from one either.
His favorite things in life included his grandchildren, watching *Castle* with his wife, and playing with the family's dogs. He had a signature habit of carrying napkins in both front pockets, a small but memorable detail his family will fondly remember.
Andrew will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of integrity, love, and hard work will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Solosy Funeral Home in Lincoln Park.
