Our dear mother, Phebe Wong, peacefully passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 91. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, caring sister, and beloved grandmother.
Phebe was born on October 28, 1933, in River Rouge, MI, and was the second of four children. She grew up working alongside her family in their laundry business. Phebe was a proud member of the River Rouge High School Class of 1952, where she was the valedictorian. As a teenager, she excelled in sports, participating in basketball, roller skating, and even dabbling in fencing. Phebe later graduated from Wayne State University.
She married Phillip Wong, and together they raised four wonderful boys. After Phillip's passing, Phebe continued to raise her children with love, dedication, and strength.
She was a fixture in the local library community, working in a variety of roles at both the Southfield and Baldwin public libraries for over 25 years.
Throughout her life, Phebe remained active, enjoying tennis, golf, and ice skating. She was often found socializing and exercising with her friends at the local health club. Phebe was also an avid reader, constantly expanding her knowledge on a wide variety of topics.
In addition to her passion for reading, Phebe had a deep love for music, with a special place in her heart for Neil Diamond. She was also a dedicated gardener, obtaining a Master Gardener's certificate and sharing her expertise and love of plants with friends and family.
Phebe enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, exploring the world from Europe to Asia and South America. These travels enriched her life and created lasting memories that she cherished.
Phebe was preceded in death by her parents, Shung Moon and Jean Moon; her husband, Phillip Wong; her sister Winnie (West) Woon; her half-brothers Adam (Loretta) Ling, David (Terri) Jig, and Fred (Maygee) Loon.
She is survived by her younger siblings, Linda (George) King and Henry Moon; her children, Tony (Kathy) Wong, Michael (Celeste Lee-Wong) Wong, David Wong, and Matthew (Hollie) Wong; her grandchildren, Bradley (Valeria) Wong, Caitlyn (Brian) Ha-Wong, Laura Wong, Lindsey Wong, and Kara Wong.
Phebe will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and love for her family and friends that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep all of you in my prayers.
I worked with Phebe at Baldwin Public Library for many years and frequently saw her at the Beverly Hills Club.
It really made an impression on me how determined she was to keep working and stay active.

Wong Family: My condolences on the loss of your dear Phebe. I was fortunate to connect with Phebe on many occasions at Baldwin Library.
We shared book titles and our reviews. I also enjoyed outdoor break walks where we focused on lovely gardens. Phebe was a caring and diligent employee who was greatly valued by her co workers.
