Andrew T. Slinchak passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 2, 2022. Born on August 30, 1929, Andy grew up in Newark, New Jersey attending Seton Hall Preparatory School for his early education, and went on to attend and graduate from Seton Hall University with a bachelor's degree in education. He also received his master's degree in education from Seton Hall University. He went on to teach in the Elizabeth School District and then the Eagleswood School District, becoming their principal for many years. He went on to continue as an educator for the State of NJ as a Supervisor of Vocational Education from the New Jersey Department of Corrections in Bordentown where he ultimately retired from. In addition, Andy also served 36 years on active duty and reserves in the United States Army and National Guard, rising through the enlisted ranks, being selected to become an officer, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Andy volunteered faithfully for over 30 years with the Boy Scout Troop 83, and 40 years with the Ocean Gate First Aid Squad holding several positions in each, but most notably as the Treasurer of each organization. He was an active charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8603 and Council 1926, and he enjoyed attending the monthly meetings and functions serving others. He was an active and devoted member of St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church and served as a trustee and Eucharistic Minister for many years.
He is predeceased by his mother Mary Slinchak, his father John Slinchak and his brother Edward Harback. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his son Thomas, and his fiancé Tatiana, three grandchildren Ava, Ashlei, and Andrew, his nieces Joan and Virginia and his nephew Edward. He was well known in the community of Bayville and Ocean Gate and was loved by everyone that knew him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 8603 or St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 3pm-6pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ. 08721. Meeting at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30am before leaving for a funeral mass at 11am at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Dr., Bayville, with a burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River.

Mr Slinchak was my 8th grade Civics teacher at Theodore Roosevelt Junior HS in Elizabeth. He interested me into reading the Legal Notices of the local newspaper. Sorry for your loss. RIP Mr Slinchak.
