Andrew Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 8, 2024.
Andrew (Andy) William Thompson
September 24, 1952 - March 4, 2024
It is with heavy hearts the Thompson family of Canada announces the passing of Andy Thompson at the Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut on Monday, March 4, 2024. He was in his 72nd year. He passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side due to a combination of cancer, stroke and heart failure. Andy will be dearly missed by his mother Barbara, brothers Stephen (Laura) and David (Manuela). He was cherished by his niece Kristen (Scot) and nephews Scott (Kelsey), Devin and Aaron. Andy was predeceased by his father Bruce and nephew Brennan.
He will also be dearly missed by his "second family" in Danbury, Connecticut (including his dear friend Daryle, Robin and their family, Marty, Matt, John, Alice and Tom to name a few) who were so important and brought so much vibrancy and love to his life.
Andy was the oldest of 3 boys, born in Scarborough, schooled at Highland Creek Public and West Hill Collegiate. He graduated from the University of Waterloo as a Chemical Engineer and secured a job as a food researcher with General Foods in Cobourg, Ontario. He subsequently moved to work in Tarrytown, USA in 1994 when the company was purchased by Kraft Foods. He carried on to his retirement as the senior research scientist for Kraft.
Andy split his time between Canada and the USA having owned a home in Brookfield, Connecticut for 40 years. This translated into short visits back home to Canada with the bulk of his time spent in the USA with work, socializing at his regular bars and food haunts, and enjoying the great outdoors with hiking, golfing, kayaking, cycling, boating and fishing.
He made many wonderful memories with family and friends over the years in Canada including his Dollars Lake Fishing group (Mark, Terry, Gord, Scott, Jack) starting with travels to a remote lake camp and culminating in a more relaxed experience at the family cottage.
His thirst for knowledge and love of the outdoors led him on many vacations throughout America and Europe. Andy was always busy being a constant researcher and took a genuine interest and pride in sharing time, socializing and helping people. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family.
Celebrations of Life in both the US and Canada are to be announced once international considerations are taken into account.
