The son of Thomas C. and Nancy (Bova) Vergo, Andy was born on September 1, 1933 in Rochester, NY. After graduating from Aquinas High School in 1951, he enrolled in Saint John Fisher College in the Fall of 1951 and was beyond proud to graduate with a B.B.A degree in accounting as a member of the very first graduating class of Saint John Fisher College in 1955. Andy began employment with AC Rochester Division of General Motors Corporation on May 6, 1955. He married the love of his life, Alice Dorothy Smith, on May 5, 1956. From June 1956 until June 1958, he served in the U.S. Army as an accountant during the Korean War. After his service, he returned to AC Rochester Products Division of General Motors employed as a Manager in Financial Administration before retiring in September 1991 after thirty-six years of dedicated service. Andy and Alice first settled in Irondequoit, NY to begin their family and raise their four daughters. In 1975, Andy, Alice and their family moved to Penfield, NY. where Andy served as usher at Saint Joseph Church for many years. In 1962, Andy received the Alumnus of the Year Award from Saint John Fisher College. He served on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of Saint John Fisher College as well as a past Chair of the Rochester Chapter of Saint John Fisher Alumni. Andy volunteered his time and served as Vice Chair and Board of directors of the Consumer in the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Rochester. Andy was a proud, dedicated and enthusiastic member as well as past President of Toastmasters International, Rochester Club 476 in Rochester, NY. His dedication paved his path to being honored as Club 476 Toastmaster of the Year during his many years of membership with the club. In 2009, Andy was presented with the Accounting Society Lifetime Achievement Award by his beloved Saint John Fisher College.
Andy and Alice enjoyed yearly family vacations in Eagle Bay, NY, and many winters after retirement in Jupiter and West Palm Beach, FL. His Catholic faith was important to him as was the value of an education which he passed on to both his daughters and grandchildren. Andy was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills. He enjoyed watching sports, playing golf, and playing an active role in alumni and other events at Saint John Fisher College. Most of all, Andy cherished time with his wife, Alice, his four daughters, two granddaughters, three grandsons, sons-in-law, extended family members & relatives, friends, and colleagues.
