GRAFTON Andrew Thomas Ward died March 21, 2023 at his home in Grafton, at the age of 36 after living with cancer for two years. Andrew was born in Virginia and grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire before graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy, Middlebury College, and the Pratt Institute School of Information.
After school, Andrew moved to the capital region and was a public librarian in Voorheesville and Troy. He was a firm believer in the mission of the library-to create a welcoming and accessible space for everybody to learn and grow.
Andrew was deeply beloved by those who knew him, and will be remembered for his intelligence, compassion, good humor, and kindness. Andrew loved video games, children, books, "real progressives like Elizabeth Warren," unions, good food, craft beers, coffee, baking, gardening, and music. But what he really loved was his family and friends, principally his wife, Victoria Buonanno, and his daughters, Ida and Mae.
Andrew and Tori wish to thank the incredible team of doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for him at NYOH Albany, Albany Medical Center, and Community Hospice, especially Dr. Kambam, Ellen, Chris, Dan, and Marcia whose honesty and compassionate care grounded Andrew and his family and helped them face the last years of his life with resilience, humor, and love.
A visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Saturday April 15, 2023 at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family and remember Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, Andrew asked that you please consider a donation to the Friends of the Troy Public Library (friendsofthetroylibrary.org).
